Most start-up delays can be traced back to feasibility. Use this checklist to select sites that can genuinely deliver.
Study start-up is where many timelines are won or lost. A thorough feasibility assessment is the best predictor of whether a site will activate on time and recruit as promised.
Protocol fit
- Do the eligibility criteria match the patients the site actually sees?
- Are required procedures and equipment available on site?
Investigator and team
- Does the investigator have time for the study alongside clinical duties?
- Is a dedicated, trained coordinator available?
Competing studies
- How many studies at the site target the same patient population?
Ethics and contracts
- How often does the ethics committee meet, and what are typical review times?
- Is a standard clinical trial agreement and budget template available?
Working through these questions honestly with every site, before recommending it, is the simplest way to keep enrollment projections realistic.
